If you’re not sure what a good homeschool planner should include, here’s what I think is essential! And we include it all in our FREE homeschool planner!
When it comes to home educating (or anything, for that matter!) I’m not the most organised person in the world, which is why I rely on things that will help to keep me organised and able to organise everything I need to.
A homeschool planner does just that. It helps me keep track of so much: homeschool-related activities, groups and clubs, educational goals, and anything else I need to remember or prepare for.
So, the question of whether you need a homeschool planner really comes down to preference and whether it would benefit you. If, like me, you’re not that organised and want to be, having a homeschool planner definitely helps you to feel like you’ve got it all together.
All the same, you might be someone who thrives from being organised, so a homeschool planner is probably something you can’t get enough of!
Obviously, the most important benefit of having a homeschool planner is that it helps to keep you organised with homeschooling. But the other great benefits include:
Every homeschool planner is unique, and whichever one you choose should suit your needs when home educating. You might favour a daily planner or a monthly planner. You might want a planner that is simplistic and does the job or one that includes everything you could possibly want and need.
But if you’re not sure what a good homeschool planner should include, here’s what I think is essential! And we include it all in our FREE homeschool planner!
I think having a dedicated page for your homeschool mission statement is a great way to start your homeschool planner because it’s your source of motivation, your ‘why’ for home educating, and something you can refer back to again and again.
You can never go wrong with a checklist. If there’s something you need to remember or do, it’s there for you to write down and tick off when you complete it.
Having a budget is the best way to keep track of all your homeschool expenses. Without it, I wouldn’t stick to a budget or know how much I’m spending each month.
I love setting goals because it’s the best form of motivation and a perfect way to make progress. Having daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly goals are all really useful because you can help your children strive for their short-term and long-term goals.
This is the most essential part of any planner, of course! And whether you prefer to plan daily, weekly or monthly, the choice is yours.
If you want to focus on more subject-specific activities, having a lesson plan allows you to do exactly that. It’s a great way to see your child’s objectives and achievements at a glance.
Every great planner should have pages to record your child’s progress. Not only is it great for you to see how they’re doing, it’s essential for describing your child’s education and progress to your local authority when you need to.
When homeschooling, there are many resources that you’re bound to use. Having a resources page means that you can remember them all!
The best thing about home educating is the memories you create with your children. Being able to record them in a homeschool planner truly makes it something to treasure in the years to come!
Whether you want to journal or write down your random memos, every homeschool planner needs pages for notes!
