Simple Winter Homeschool Activities & Ideas

Watch a Christmas movie

Pick your favourite family Christmas movie, grab some blankets and enjoy! I’d definitely recommend making up your own Christmas movie too.

Do a jigsaw puzzle

There’s nothing quite like doing a jigsaw puzzle when it’s too cold or wet to go outside.

Design your own jigsaw puzzle

If you’re looking for something a little more creative but still simplistic and easy-going, get your children to design their own jigsaw puzzles. They’ll have so much fun putting them back together again!

Write down your goals for next year

For a more quiet and thoughtful winter homeschool activity, write down your goals for next year together.

Go on a winter walk

You can’t beat a nice winter walk. Just wrap up warm!

Go ice-skating

There’s something about ice-skating which really puts you in the festive spirit—and it’s a fun skill to learn too!

Cosy Winter Homeschool Activities & Ideas

Make a festive drink

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Hot chocolate!

Bake and decorate festive treats

Think gingerbread men and more!

Learn to bake bread

For a fun and cosy winter homeschool activity, why not learn how to bake bread? You can even make it into something Christmas-inspired!

Learn how to crochet or knit

Nothing says cosy like crocheting or knitting something for winter.

Read a cosy book

It’s the perfect season to get in that comfy chair and read a cosy book.

Have an indoor picnic

It might be too cold to have a picnic outside (although you might be brave enough!), so why not have one inside? You can get your children to help make and prepare the food and set it up together!

Creative Winter Homeschool Activities & Ideas

Make a snow globe

The best part about making a snow globe is that you can put whatever you want inside!

This is a great example of how to make one!

Make fake snow

You only need two ingredients to make fake snow: bicarbonate of soda and shaving cream. You can also use white conditioner!

Create a Christmas-themed production

This is definitely a fun and creative winter homeschool activity, and it will be sure to keep your children busy for the day!

Design a winter sweater

Create some ideas on paper first and then bring them to life on a sweater!

Make candles

Candle making is a super relaxing winter activity and you can use some creative moulds too!

Make an ice sculpture

Simply freeze water and once frozen, use the blocks to make different sculptures.

Frosty window painting

Get those washable glass markers and start decorating those windows!

Winter in a jar

Collect winter-themed items or get your children to create their vision of winter.

Make shadow puppets

Shadow puppets may be simple but you can have so much fun with them. They’re great for those cosy, dark nights and for storytelling!

Create a winter dreamcatcher

A winter dreamcatcher is such a beautiful craft to create. You could design it like a snowflake or add winter-inspired things to make it look festive.

Here’s an idea of how to make one

Make frozen ice marbles

Once made, these look like giant colourful marbles! Simply fill balloons with water and add food colouring, then put them in the freezer.

Create a winter stop-motion film

This little activity really brings winter magic to life. Create a snow landscape and include small figurines for characters! Remember to take photos for each movement. Your children will have so much fun putting it together and watching it back.

Create a winter sculpture garden

Bring your garden to life with winter sculptures or create a miniature version filled with snow animals and other winter-inspired things!
