What Home Education Is and Isn’t

Home Education is . . .

what home education is and isn't

What Home Education is:

A personal choice

The decision to home educate is a personal choice and everyone’s reasons are different. Although certain factors might influence or propel someone to home educate, it’s still a choice to make in the best interests of your child.

Customised learning

Home Education is all about customised learning and following your child’s interests. There are various educational styles to choose from and it’s never one-size-fits-all. The learning possibilities are endless and the best part is discovering how your child learns best.

Flexible schedules

Your schedule does not have to look the same as a traditional school. The beauty of Home Education is how flexible it can be. It can look like a morning of learning or a whole day. Everything is on your family’s schedule and learning can be implemented around other commitments, like work.

Family-orientated

Home Education is about creating quality time with family because spending time with your children is something that you’ll never regret or get back.

Full of opportunity

The opportunities are endless if you choose to home educate. Your children can learn what they are actually interested in and what is actually valuable, like life skills.

What Home Education isn’t:

A lower standard of education

Home Education is by no means a lower standard of education. If anything home educated children thrive and excel academically. They are able to follow their own interests, and there are endless quality resources out there to choose from.

Isolation from society

It’s a misconception that home educated children are more isolated. If anything, they gain a lot more exposure to society. Home Education enables children to learn from different scenarios and be in different environments, rather than be restricted to a classroom.

Exclusive to certain families

Home Education isn’t just exclusive to certain families. No matter what background or class you are from or how old your children are, anyone can home educate. And everyone has a right to.

A disadvantage in pursuing a career or higher education

Home educated children are not at a disadvantage in pursuing a career or higher education. They are still able to take exams, if they please, and apply to a college. Home Education often creates career-driven and ambitious individuals because children are able to follow their interests and focus on things that they are good at.

A cop out of education

Home Education is still an education. Families do not choose to home educate so that their child can sit at home and have an easy life. They choose it because it’s in the best interests of their child, and not everyone fits into the schooling system or agrees with it.
