Considering Home Education? Well, you’ve come to the right blog post. We’ve come up with 12 great reasons to home educate your child in 2024. But don’t just take our word for it — these reasons have all been voiced by other home educators!
Home Education offers so much flexibility. There are no rules or expectations (apart from ensuring your child has a suitable education) and everything is on your terms! As a family you can decide how, when and where to learn, doing so in the best interests of your child. You also don’t have to follow the same structure as the school day, term or year. Home educators really value having the flexibility to do something different every day.
Alongside flexibility is freedom! Your child doesn’t have to follow a specific curriculum, routine or a specific method of learning. They have the freedom to learn subjects that they are genuinely interested in, in a way that best suits them. And there’s always the option to change and adjust along the way.
Another great reason to home educate your child is that you get to spend more quality time together. Not many people may think about how much time they miss out on during their child’s childhood, but the parent of a child that goes to school during compulsory school age misses out on a minimum of 32.5 hours per week with them. That’s approximately 1,267.5 hours a year! Then multiply that by the number of years they’re in school! That’s a lot of memories that could have been made together.
Yes, that’s right. You get to create a schedule that works for your family. That means if your children aren’t morning people you can start Home Education later in the day or whenever is best for them. Together you also get to decide the activities that your children want to do and what you do each day. Unlike school, your schedule doesn’t have to be strict or restricted.
There’s less pressure when you home educate. You don’t have to force your children to take specific subjects or keep up with their peers or make them take exams. Instead, they get to make their own choices, which makes for a much more relaxing environment where your children actually want to learn!
Oh what a dream to not have to think about rushing your children to get ready and out the door on time for the mad school run! If laidback mornings are your kind of thing then you’ve got another great reason to home educate.
Home Education gives children the chance to enjoy life more. They get more experiences outside of the classroom and they can learn and enjoy at the same time. In fact, any experience can be a learning opportunity, so why not let your children have fun?
Home educated children have the potential to learn so much more! With a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips and all around them, they can really dive into a subject or skill that they are interested in and learn it inside and out.
What could be better than travelling? For children, travelling is a great reason to home educate because they wouldn’t normally get as many opportunities if they were in school. Think about all the times parents/carers have to carefully plan or save for a holiday because they can’t take their kids out during term time. Now imagine home educating your children and being able to take them anywhere at any time of year!
As already mentioned, Home Education means less pressure because it’s so much more relaxed. And when things are more relaxed, they’re less stressful and easier to deal with. Children learn better and are motivated to do more because they’re in a much calmer, comfortable environment.
One of the greatest reasons to home educate your child is how much it strengthens the bond between you both. Obviously you spend more time together, which helps children to feel connected, but it’s more than that. Yes, you’ll both still have your ups and downs but this also creates trust and stronger bonds. You’ll really cherish the moments you have together.
Home educated children often show a lot of motivation to learn because they get to do things that they enjoy and learn in a way that best suits them. Not every child learns the same way, so why not give them a choice to do what’s best for them?
These are just some of the great reasons to home educate your child in 2024 and if it’s a choice you decide to make, we’re sure that you will discover many more great reasons!
