So, we thought it would be useful to compile a list of the must-have essentials for your homeschool room. That way, you’ll know what you really need to make it the best homeschool room that it can be, and one that your children will love.

Tips on Creating Your Homeschool Room

Get input from your children

When it comes to creating and setting up a homeschool room, your children should be involved in the decision-making, not only because it’s where they will be learning but because it’s only fair that they decide what will work best for them. Not to mention, the fun they’ll have in designing their own homeschool room and seeing it come together.

Decide where the homeschool room will be

An important decision is deciding where your homeschool room will be. Will it be in a spare room or a room you already use, like the living room? Or will it be somewhere completely different? Wherever you decide to have your homeschool room, make sure it’s somewhere quiet and away from other distractions.

Create a budget

An essential part of creating your homeschool room is having a budget. With one in place, it’s much easier to find affordable essentials without breaking the bank or realising that you can’t get them because you weren’t prepared for the cost.

Write a list of what you need

Once you have a budget in place, it’s a good idea to write out a list of what you need (and want!). You can even include these must-have essentials!

Create a mood-board of ideas and styles

If you’re looking for some inspiration for your homeschool room, Pinterest is the place. It’s perfect for creating virtual mood-boards of your favourite ideas and styles and helps you to visualise what you want your homeschool room to look like and include.

The Must-Have Essentials For Any Homeschool Room

Desk or table with chairs

There aren’t many homeschool rooms without a desk or table because it’s the ideal place to sit, work and learn. You could have something as basic as a folding table or something a bit more rustic like a wooden desk. Remember, a desk/table doesn’t have to be a big purchase and it doesn’t have to take up a lot of space either.

Bookshelf

Whether you’re storing books or want to put things on display, a bookshelf actually has many great uses and really makes your homeschool room look vibrant and complete.

Storage space

Every homeschool room needs a bit of storage space, which can be as simple as some storage boxes or something bigger, depending on how much storage you need.

Reading corner

Want to make your homeschool room more cosy? Well, there’s nothing more cosier than a little reading corner. Whether you have a reading chair, a beanbag, or something else, create a bit of space in your homeschool room where your children can sit, relax and get lost in a good book.

A lamp or fairy lights

Having a lamp or fairy lights really adds to the atmospheric and cosy feel of a homeschool room, so for that reason we consider them an essential! They’re also great for those who like learning in the evenings.

Designated area for drinks and snacks

A great essential for your homeschool room is a designated area for drinks and snacks. Learning is thirsty work and your children are bound to get hungry too. So, instead of them breaking concentration or stopping what they’re doing to go to the kitchen, have a specific place where your children can help themselves to food and drinks. This could include a mini fridge, a water dispenser or a drawer full of good snacks.

Posters or art

There’s no better way to bring your homeschool room to life than with posters and art. It really adds to the aesthetic of the room and gives your children something to look at or read every day.

A display or notice board

Every homeschool room needs a display or notice board as you can put anything on them — whether it be examples of work, timetables, notes or photos!

A clock

A clock isn’t just great for keeping track of time, it again adds to the aesthetic of a homeschool room.

World map or globe

Another great essential for every homeschool room is a world map or globe. We love the way they look and their usefulness in learning too!

That’s our 10 must-have essentials for your homeschool room, but remember, your homeschool room is what you make it! We’d love to see what yours looks like!
